Instagram introduces new “Profile Card” feature

Instagram is currently in the process of rolling out its new “Profile Card” feature, a digital business card designed to streamline the process of sharing profiles. This launch follows months of testing with select users, and the tool is now available to all users worldwide.

The Profile Card eliminates the need for users to provide their handles to others. Instead, they can simply share the card, making it easier to meet new people and expand their networks. The card displays information from users’ Instagram profiles, such as their bio, profile photo, and any links or music they have uploaded.

The Profile Card has two sides: one is a shareable card with your profile information, while the other includes a QR code that directs others to your account. Users can further personalize the card by adding a background image. This tool is ideal for anyone looking to promote themselves, attract potential partners, or simply make new connections.

Instagram introduced this feature in response to the growing number of Gen Z users utilizing their Instagram profiles as personal resumes. According to Meta, a recent survey found that more than half of Gen Zers aspire to become influencers. The Profile Card helps them better promote their personal brands.

Although Instagram has allowed users to share their profiles via QR codes since 2018, the new Profile Cards offer a more comprehensive method. The cards provide more context and connection than a basic QR code, offering a glimpse into users’ interests and content.
