The Oyo State government has unveiled plans to enlist 1000 senior secondary students from across 11 local governments in Ibadan for a specialized training program in technology skills. This initiative, announced by Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe, Executive Assistant on Administration and Focal Person on Human Capital Development, is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision under the Sustainable Development Agenda of Omitutun 2.0.
The pilot training program, scheduled to commence on July 15th and run till July 19th, 2024, aims to empower teenagers with coding and non-code tech skills. Reverend Ogedengbe highlighted that the program would initially focus on assessing its success and challenges in the state before extending it to other parts.
Participants will be selected based on nominations from their respective schools, with no financial obligations other than attending and actively participating throughout the program. The collaboration between CodeGarageAfrica, the Oyo State Government, Zeeh Africa, and 386konsult Limited underscores the government’s commitment to providing quality education and preparing youth for the 21st-century challenges.
Mr. David Adeleke, co-founder of Zeeh Africa, emphasized plans to absorb the trainees into internships to further equip them with essential skills for the tech market. Miss Dolapo Ayeni, co-founder of CodeGarageAfrica, praised Governor Makinde’s dedication to youth empowerment and entrepreneurial skills development, highlighting the importance of coding education in today’s society.
This groundbreaking initiative not only reflects Governor Makinde’s vision for education and youth empowerment but also positions Oyo State as a hub for innovation and technological advancement. Through this program, the state aims to lay the foundation for a future where students excel in technology-driven fields and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
